We're still on the Bride's statement in SoS 1:2
"Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth..."
In Revelations 3:20 Jesus says to a body of believers:
'Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come into him and dine with him, and he with Me.
Revelation 3:20
Indicating that He's knocking not only on the sinner's heart but also believer's. So how do we open the door to Jesus?
I think one of the most exciting things for a woman is being pursued by a man. Let me rephrase that, being pursued by a man she's in love with or interested in. I dare to say, it's more exciting than shopping. Just like many men enjoy the thrill of going after a woman, many women enjoy the attention.
I still vividly remember the first time a guy I was interested in said he loved me and wanted a relationship with me. I was so excited it felt like my intestines were being tied into a million knots. It wasn't that I hadn't already figured out he was interested (well, my friend did the math not me), but there was something about his expressed desire.
It's one thing to know someone is interested in you, but when it is passionately expressed and backed by actions till it rids you of all doubt, oh! the feeling is heavenly (permit me to use that word). In greater measure, God is much more delighted when we express our desire for Him. Jesus says in Jeremiah 29:12-13:
When you call on me, when you come and pray to me, I’ll listen. “When you come looking for me, you’ll find me. “Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed.” (MSG)
Just like you say 'come in' when someone knocks at the door of your home, desire must be expressed to God by seeking Him wholeheartedly in prayer. It is the primary way you open your heart to Jesus. It is His access code to your heart and yours to His. Jesus said in John 15:7 to ask what we desire. Desire must be expressed wholeheartedly in prayer.
PRAY WITH ME:
Jesus, I open the door of my heart today and I let you in. Come into my heart that I may know you and fellowship with you deeper than ever before. Amen.
REFLECT AND ACT:
- Consider the words of David from Psalm 63:1 expressing His desire for God:
'O God, You are my God; Early will I seek you; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water
David was saying put simply that he desired God more than he desired water in a desert. Think about that and weigh your desire for God
- Take out time to express your wholehearted desire for our Beloved Bridegroom King, Jesus, and expect Him to come in and reveal Himself to you.
